Horst Quartet feeling its way thru perilous shibboleth tests. In the end they access the pure gray matter. Rusa 2012, these chicks CAN hold the smoke. That’s what it is.

Gig coming up! Next Sunday, 20.5. it's Vadelmatiloja festival @ Harjun nuorisotalo, HKI. Lots of cool candies to rot your teeth with! Follow this link for full program and details:

hear the good word of reverend Tyrone D.C. Washington about the product in question:

“First things first: this record only lasts for 29 minutes. And I say this as a positive thing, not because it’s so goddamn awful that I couldn’t take more. Records are too long anyway and try to eat up what little is left on the daily routine between opening and closing your eyes. Half an hour will do just fine, thank you. Unless you’re John Coltrane. Live. In Japan. Have you heard THAT? He plays “My Favorite Things” for 58 minutes! And there’s three more cds left after that. But anyway, back to this thing here. It’s a jazz band, you know, sax/bass/drums & guitar, playing chords and changes and showtunes and endless variations of “I Got Rhythm”. Snappin’, Ba-Doo-Dah, Ba-Doo-Dah, Steamin’, Workin’, Relaxin’…seriously, I’m a liar. It’s nothing like that. Really. Well, actually at some points it does fleetingly sound like ‘jazz’, especially the guitar man who suddenly dons his Derek Bailey cape and runs around like Grant Green. Or maybe that whatshisname, Bad…no Bat Metheny. Uncanny. The Little Drummer Boy must have enrolled for few semesters to The John Stevens School For Spontaneous Musical Education (JSSSME), just listen to the restraint he’s displaying, now you hear him, now you don’t. Wonderful. And double bass…you know what they say about bass players in jazz groups? They’re like assholes - every one’s got one. Slinky motherfuckers, holding that coffin like their life depended on it. But hey, that’s the safety net the others will land on when they fall. Rubbery. Who’s next? Aah, Mr. John Coltrane. He plays “Crescent” for 54 minutes. In Japan. Nothing to do with the chap playing here, though. But he’s playing, alright. And he’s playing alright. It’s funny how the sax always steals the show. Must be the shape. Stop using sax as a weapon, like Pat Benatar used to beg. Did you know that if you take a can opener and use it on a tenor saxophone and spread it on the ground, it will cover the area of a full-size tennis court? Me neither. Godspeed!”
